Gerry's Biker Blog

Since the clocks went back I've noticed a marked decrease in the number of riders out and about. I still see a few hardy souls on the M8 at rush hour and I've managed a few dry days myself but the dark nights and lowering temperatures are putting me off now. One of the guys here at Smooth recently found out that the bike came equipped with heated grips and accused me of being a big wuss! Well, I wouldn't be without them. Better not tell him about the heated seat and warm foot bath - I'm joking.
In my last Biker Blog I was asking for suggestions of good routes to ride and thanks to John McGovern who suggested I try the A82 along Loch Lomond right up through Newtonmore and back down the A9 - a weekend run with plenty of campsites, says John. Thanks for the tip John. So what's your favourite? Let me know via the interact form below.
One thing about the dark nights is that when you're not riding the bike, you've got plenty of time to buy things for it - ladies aren't the only ones who can accessorise! And what do you know, here comes Christmas - the perfect opportunity to please the biker in the household.

I'm told this year's must have for the fashion conscious biker is clip-on ears. They'll certainly get you noticed. I've written my list to Santa and as I've been a safe and courteous biker this year, I'd like to see at least one of my requests on Christmas Day.
For those who have read this blog before, you'll know that I'm a fairly new hand, getting my licence just last year. So, I was delighted when I passed another milestone last week - carrying a pillion passenger. It's a bit dodgy at slow speeds but once we got onto the M8 around Ibrox things evened out. What struck me is the lack of communication - and that's one of the things on my list to Santa, an intercom.
A friend of mine, Kenny, bought an intercom to use on his bike when his wife rode pillion. Anxious to try it out they hooked up, saddled up and hit the countryside. Once the novelty had worn off the following conversation boiled down to "...oh look, there's a cow".
Remember to drop me a line with your best routes and tell me what you've asked Santa for this year.
